چکیده
There is a growing interest among people in western countries for adoption of healthier lifestyle habits and diet behaviors with one the most known ones to be Mediterranean (Med-D). Med-D linked daily consumption food products such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, seafood, beans, nuts, olive oil, low-fat derivatives limited meat or full fat products. well-known promote well-being lower risk chronic conditions cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, metabolic syndrome. On other hand bioactive constituents foods may interfere drugs’ pharmacological mechanisms, modulating clinical outcome leading drug-food interactions (DFIs). This review discusses current evidence that are included within Med-Dand available scientific data suggest potential contribution DFIs impact on therapeutic outcome. Most cases refer modulation absorption metabolism foods’ carrier-mediated transport enzymatic well synergistic antagonistic effects enhance reduce effect some drugs. Adherence can improve disease management overall well-being, but specific should consumed caution so not hinder therapy Proper patient education consultation from healthcare providers important avoid any conflicts side due clinically significant DFIs.

Polypharmacy in Bipolar Disorder - a Focus on Drug - Drug Interactions
Background: Drug-drug interactions (DDI) are actually quite commonplace and are responsible for considerable patient morbidity and mortality. The two major varieties of DDI are pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic interactions (cytochrome P450 system). Conditions such as bipolar disorder (with many psychiatric and somatic comorbidities) are complex symptom clusters and bipolar patients may need ...

The benefits of the Mediterranean diet (MD) for protecting against chronic disorders such as cardiovascular disease are usually attributed to high consumption of certain food groups such as vegetables, and low consumption of other food groups such as meat. The influence of food processing techniques such as food preparation and cooking on the nutrient composition and nutritional value of these ...

Statin monotherapy is generally well tolerated, with a low frequency of adverse events. The most important adverse effects associated with statins are myopathy and an asymptomatic increase in hepatic transaminases, both of which occur infrequently. Because statins are prescribed on a long-term basis, however, possible interactions with other drugs deserve particular attention, as many patients ...

Psychiatric and physical conditions often coexist, and there is robust evidence that associates the frequency of depression with single and multiple physical conditions. More than half of patients with depression may have at least one chronic physical condition. Therefore, antidepressants are often used in cotherapy with other medications for the management of both psychiatric and chronic physi...

The effect of drug on a person may be different than expected because that drug interacts with another drug the person is taking (drug-drug interaction), food, beverages, dietary supplements the person is consuming (drug-nutrient/food interaction) or another disease the person has (drug-disease interaction). A drug interaction is a situation in which a substance affects the activity of a drug, ...
